International Film Screening Excursion

Le département de français du lycée polytechnique a organisé une excursion à un festival de tournage français appelé CALCOA qui a réuni des membres de toutes les classes de français la semaine dernière. Il y avait un court métrage projeté, avant l'objectif principal du festival qui était un film dramatique intitulé "Les Héritiers".

Le film suivait la vie d'une jeune étudiante française confrontée à des problèmes d'origine différente des autres élèves de son lycée extrêmement prestigieux. La plupart des étudiants venaient de familles établies prospères avec de nombreuses ressources, mais elle était là grâce à une bourse et pouvait à peine fournir assez d'argent pour maintenir son maigre style de vie. Tout au long de sa scolarité intense, elle a fait face à des problèmes familiaux et a même été forcée de quitter l'institution pendant une courte période. Cependant, à la fin, elle réussit dans ses études et est autorisée à continuer à essayer n'importe quel degré de son choix. Les principaux thèmes seraient les différences de classe, l'engagement entre les problèmes et l'écart en matière d'éducation.

L'objectif du film était l'idée d'un écart de richesse dans l'éducation, que la réalisatrice a déclaré qu'elle pensait être particulièrement intéressante parce qu'elle avait connu une personne dans une situation similaire pendant son enfance. Ils ont tenu à souligner que la question des inégalités scolaires est présente partout dans le monde, mais qu'il est difficile d'y remédier car c'est un cycle.

Après la projection, nous avons été surpris par une apparition de l'actrice principale du film. Le réalisateur et la star sont montés sur scène avec un traducteur pour recevoir les questions des élèves du public. Il était intéressant de comprendre l'actrice à un niveau plus profond que son personnage dans le film. C'était une personne incroyablement authentique qui était capable d'expliquer de première main diverses subtilités du processus de création du film. La séparation entre les artistes et leur travail est parfois difficile à faire, mais la possibilité de rencontrer deux des personnes les plus en vue travaillant sur le film a permis aux étudiants de les comprendre à un autre niveau.

The Polytechnic Upper School French department organized an excursion to a French filming festival called CALCOA that was attended by members of all French classes last week. There was a short film shown, before the primary focus of the festival which was a drama film called "Les Heritieres." 

The film followed the life of a young French student confronted with problems of different origin from the other students of her extremely prestigious high school. Most of the students came from prosperous established families with many resources, but she was there on a scholarship and could barely provide enough money to maintain her meager lifestyle. Throughout her intense schooling, she faced family issues and was even forced to leave the institution for a short time. However, in the end, she succeeds in her studies and is allowed to continue trying any degree of her choice. The main themes were class differences, engagement between issues, and the education gap.

The focus of the film was the idea of ​​a wealth gap in education, which the director commented that she thought was particularly interesting because she had known an individual in a similar situation during her childhood. They made sure to emphasize that the issue of educational inequality is present all over the world, but it is difficult to remedy it because it is a cycle. 

After the screening, we were surprised by an appearance by the main actress in the film. The director and the star walked onto the stage with a translator to receive questions from the students in the audience. It was interesting to understand the actress on a deeper level than her character in the film. She was an incredibly genuine individual who was able to explain firsthand various intricacies of the process of creating the movie. The separation between artists and their work is sometimes a difficult one to make, but the ability to meet two of the most prominent people working on the film allowed the students to understand them on another level.
